When I'm Not Studying

Herriman Ridge Triathlon

Swim

I did swim team in high school so swimming is my strength in the race. It by far is my favorite part! You also get to keep cool for the rest of the race since it's first.

Bike

If you practice your transition then biking is easy. My first race I had noodle legs once I got off the bike to run. It is very important to practice your transitions between the events so you are prepared to change events.

Run

The run is the hardest part. Your body is feeling worn out from the 2 events before. The thing that motivates me to finish is my family at the end cheering me on. It's so exciting to have people there supporting you. My signature move is to kart-wheel through the finish line!

Win

The best feeling is when you win. I didn't expect to place in this event but sure enough I got 3rd place. It isn't 1st but it is better then I was planning on! This year I plan to take 1st place in my age group and will train hard to attain that.

Triathlons have taught me to push through each process of challenges and to finish what I've started. Being three events I look at it as breaking up something hard into three small chunks, and pushed through each individually. This has helped me with my mental mindset of finishing what you start.

Hiking

One of my favorite hikes is in Provo above the temple. The rocks and mountains are so beautiful together. My friends and I like to hike to a small cave, build a fire, and make hot chocolate over the fire.

adventuring with my sweetheart

We enjoy getting out and hiking, walking, going to the gym, traveling, and watching movies together.

I love hiking, and this May have planned a trip to hike Machu Picchu. Hiking has taught me to disconnect from the worldly things and to simply enjoy my surroundings. I'm able to be a part of nature and this helps me refuel!

Skiing

My dad taught me how to ski when I was 3. Since then it has been one of my favorite sports. Now that i'm older I like to go with friends. This is my best friend Ashley and although she is a snowboarder, i'm still her friend!

Skiing helps me disconnect the busy life and focus on conquering the diamond rated trail. I love going fast downhill and being extremely focused on taking on the most advanced trails. It's helped me to look at challenging situations but know that I'll be able to navigate it and push through like so with skiing.

My husband and I share similar hobbies and like to get out and do them. We go to the gym together on average of four times a week. Physical health is important to us and we believe this has helped us keep a strong relationship and healthy mindset.

Longboarding

Longboarding is another natural talent I picked up. I started when my brother accidentally won 2 longboards on my mom's Ebay account. She couldn't do anything about it so my brother taught me how to ride and it's something i've enjoyed doing since.

Longboard has taught me how to embrace the scary things in life. It's scary when you're flying down a hill and don't know how to stop. I had to teach myself how to gently lower my foot to the ground and control my speed. It's helped me learn how to navigate challenging situations in life.

SlackLining

My friends taught me how to slackline a couple of years ago. A slcakline is usually 2 inches wide, but this particular one was 1 inch wide so it was a lot more of a challenge for me. I did manage to make it to the end though!

Slack-lining has showed me how much our mindset has a say in our success. It requires deep focus and stepping outside of my mind for a few minutes feels meditative to me. I have to focus on my breathing and every move of my body. So I'm really connected to myself while doing it.

Yoga

My good friend Rivka is popular in the yogi world for her talent. I've lucked out to get lessons from her for free. It's one way to challenge myself because I am not the most flexible person.

Yoga has been my go to source for clearing my mind after a long day. It has taught me to practice mindfullness, clearing out all distracting thoughts. Meditation has been a big tool for me in my every day life. Because I've earned a strong mindset, I've talked myself down from fear during hard and stressful situations.

Friends

The people who will always have my back! For my birthday last year we all went to Color Me Mine. We had to get the classic selfie!

You become like the 5 people you surround yourself with. I live by the saying "I'd rather have 4 quarters than 100 pennies." My friends are very important to me and I keep a close knit group. We all have similar successes and this is especially beneficial when I need some advice or someone to turn to.

Half Marathon

The Howloween Half Marathon was one of the hardest challenges i've done. I am not the best at running so this race really pushed me. 13.1 miles has never felt so long! But hey we finished and I accomplished something on my bucket list that day!

The finish line has never felt so far away to me before! Half marathons are a different kind of challenge. Each mile passes so slowly until about mile 6. From there you feel almost halfway and like the race just needs to be done. I've learned to break the race down into two chunks. The first half is doable, then the second half I have to mentally override the thoughts of quitting. The feeling while passing the finish line is indescribable though!
